Gettin Started

It's that time of the year again.

Time to decide what varieties I'm growin this year and which ones get cut.

I've been growing heirloom tomatoes for more than ten years now and each year I swear I won't grow that many kinds again. Last year I ended up with 72 different kinds. 90% heirlooms.

This year no more than 50, I swear.

I start by pickin the ones I liked from last year, and the can't be without ones, and the new ones. You can imagine after ten years of this my seed box has over 300 types and thats just tomatoes. I also do many peppers too.

I sell tomato plants and tomatoes at the Farmers Market. I also save my own seeds from most of the varieties I grow.

In the spring when I put the plants out, they like some protection from the cold wind. So I made cardboard tepees around each plant and it looked like an Indian village, hence the name

"Tomato Nation"
